Provigal Prescription.
Provigal is prescribed to improve wakefulness in patients with:
- In patients with shift work sleep disorder;
- Narcolepsy (sudden uncontrollable attacks of daytime sleepiness);
- Obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome;

Provigal decreases extreme sleepiness due to narcolepsy and other sleep disorders such as difficult/irregular breathing during sleep (e.g., obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome-OSAHS). Provigal is also prescribed to help you stay awake during work hours for people with work schedules that interfere with a normal sleep routine (shift work sleep disorder-SWSD).

It is not known how Provigal works to increase wakefulness. It is thought to work by affecting certain chemicals in the brain that control the sleep/wake cycle. Provigal does not make up for lack of sleep and should not be prescribed to treat tiredness or hold off sleep in people who do not have a sleep disorder.

Provigal is not recommended for use in children.

Provigal Side Effects.
Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Provigal.

Side Effects may include:
- Sore throat;
- Runny nose;
- Prickling or tingling feeling;
- Nervousness;
- Nausea;
- Lung problems;
- Loss of muscle strength;
- Loss of appetite;
- Infection;
- Headache;
- Dry mouth;
- Dizziness;
- Difficulty sleeping;
- Diarrhea;
- Depression;
- Anxiety;

Provigal Dose.
Provigal is available in 100mg and 200mg doses. The recommended dose is 200mg per day taken as a single dose in the morning. Patients with shift work sleep disorder usually take Provigal about 1 hour before their work shift. Elderly patients and those with liver problems should take a reduced dose.

Provigal Overdose.
Symptoms of Provigal overdose may include:
- Agitation;
- Chest pain;
- Confusion;
- Diarrhea;
- Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep;
- Fast slow or pounding heartbeat;
- Hallucinations (seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist);
- Nausea;
- Nervousness;
- Restlessness;
- Uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body;

Provigal Precautions.
Tell your doctor your medical history, including:
- Allergies (especially drug allergies);
- Heart problems;
- High blood pressure;
- Kidney problems;
- Liver problems;
- Mental/mood problems;

Avoid alcohol intake, as it may intensify certain side effects of Provigal.
Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving).
Caution is advised when this drug is used in the elderly, as they may be more prone to drug side effects. Provigal should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

Provigal Contraindications.
If Provigal gives you an allergic reaction, you'll need to avoid it.
